Higgins Lake 2018   This property is located just north of the State Park on the west shoreline. The pictures tell the story of significant shoreline erosion. The slope along the shore was almost vertical and there was nothing to stop additional erosion. We started by laying down fabric along the entire shore and added several tons of pea gravel as a base. On top of that heavy cobble stone was placed and started to create a 1:3 slope upon which larger boulders were placed. Some larger boulders were also placed along the toe to help deflect ice push.. On top of the cobble stones, above the OHWM we installed Envirolok Units and ice guard. The Envirolok units were planted with a variety of native grasses and forbs for long term stability. Beyond the Envirolok units a riparian buffer was planted with more native species.
